Following Michael Sargeant’s resignation from JIG, John Buxton of Q8Aviation took over as Council Chair on 1 August.
Having worked in a number of operational and technical roles in aviation fuel companies for over 20 years, John brings considerable knowledge and experience to the role. He has worked for Shell Aviation both in the UK and in South Africa, where he was in the team looking after airport operations throughout Africa. He was also actively involved with Shell Aviation’s global airport operational compliance. In 2009 he moved to Q8Aviation where he has held a number of positions, most recently as Technical Services Director. In JIG, he has worked on the Operations Committee and more recently the Council and has chaired the Workshop Committee.
In offering John his congratulations and best wishes, Michael said: “I am grateful to have had the honour of being part of the leadership of this exceptional organisation and I should like to thank my colleagues on Committees, JIG staff, Council and the wider membership for all their hard work and support over the past three years. Together, we have seen JIG expand its membership significantly and grow its influence as it has risen to the many challenges facing the industry.”
John takes over at an exciting time for JIG, with a number of initiatives underway that will reinforce JIG’s standing and reputation in the industry, make it more inclusive and improve its support for members. These include JIG IATA alignment; inspecting to JIG standards; increased opportunities for direct member involvement in JIG Committees and Working Groups; and an enhanced programme of workshops and training.
“All of us in JIG are looking forward to the next few years as we take the organisation to new levels of efficiency and effectiveness, while remaining focused on our core purpose of delivering world-class Standards,” says John.
